Ordering tapas for two should feel flexible, not mathematical. The goal is to get enough variety that both people can try several things without filling the table with more food than you can enjoy.

At Jamon Jamon, a useful starting point for two people is around four or five tapas with different textures and ingredients. Then decide whether you want another round or a paella.

How many tapas should two people order?

For many couples or pairs of friends, four to five tapas is a sensible first order. Appetite, dish size and whether you plan to add paella all matter, so treat that number as a starting point rather than a rule.

The easiest way to choose: order contrasts

Instead of ordering five dishes that all feel similar, build the table around contrast: something crisp, something vegetable-based, seafood, something creamy and something richer.

A first order for two

Should you order everything at once?

You do not have to. One of the advantages of tapas is that you can begin with a first round, see what disappears fastest and then order more. That is often better than trying to predict the entire meal before anything reaches the table.

What if you want paella too?

If you plan to share Seafood Paella, reduce the number of tapas at the start. Two or three contrasting small plates followed by paella can make more sense than ordering a full tapas spread first.

A richer order for two

If you want a more substantial meal, swap one of the lighter dishes for Huevos Rotos or make Cordero al Horno the larger dish after your first tapas.

Tapas for two in Soho or Belsize Park

The same approach works at either Jamon Jamon restaurant. In Soho, it is easy to keep the first order tight if you have theatre tickets or plans downstairs. In Belsize Park, you may prefer to take more time and add another round as the meal develops. If you are organising a larger table, use our guide to ordering tapas for a group instead.

Start with variety. Order more if you want it.

That is the easiest way to order tapas for two without overthinking it.
